Walmart is moving forward with plans to open a new Supercenter in Westlake after acquiring a 24-acre development site for $11.68 million, marking another major retail investment in one of Palm Beach County’s fastest-growing communities.
According to a report by the South Florida Business Journal, the retail giant recently purchased the vacant property at 5253 Seminole Pratt Whitney Road from Minto PBLH LLC, an affiliate of master developer Minto Communities USA. The acquisition clears the way for a 188,779-square-foot Walmart Supercenter, which has already received city approvals. An opening date has not been announced.
Plans for the store include a full-service supermarket, pharmacy, vision center, garden center, automotive service center and a separate 1,618-square-foot gas station featuring 10 fuel pumps. The development will also include 768 parking spaces, making it one of the largest retail projects planned for the area.
Founded by Sam Walton in 1962, Walmart has grown into the world’s largest retailer, operating more than 10,500 stores and numerous e-commerce websites in 19 countries, including approximately 4,600 locations in the United States. The Bentonville, Arkansas-based company continues to invest in fast-growing communities where population growth is driving demand for additional shopping options.
According to Minto Communities USA, the arrival of Walmart is another sign of Westlake’s rapid expansion. Earlier this year, the developer also sold land for a new Lowe’s, while existing businesses in the community include Publix, Starbucks, Chipotle, Orangetheory Fitness, Habit Burger & Grill, Taco Bell and KFC.
