Feli is opening at 2070 NW Quimby Street in Portland’s Slabtown neighborhood, with owners Javier and Jael Canteras targeting a September 2026 opening. The pair also runs Urdaneta, the small plates restaurant that celebrated its tenth anniversary last month, and Feli marks their second concept together, this time built around the food of southern Spain’s Andalusian region.
The name comes from Javier’s paternal grandmother, Feliciana, known to family as Feli, who was born in Córdoba. It continues a naming tradition Javier started with Urdaneta, his grandfather’s surname, tying both restaurants to family history. Feli will be roughly 50 to 55 seats, larger than the intimate Urdaneta, with an additional 10 seats at the bar and outdoor seating planned for warmer months.
The menu will lean into Andalusian influences shaped by centuries of Moorish, Roman and Jewish culture in the region, featuring spices like cumin, citrus fruits including Seville orange, and dishes cooked in a Josper oven imported from Barcelona, a charcoal-fired oven capable of grilling, smoking and baking at once. According to Bridgetown Bites, the kitchen plans to serve whole fish, slow-cooked vegetables, Iberico pork and rotating rice dishes, alongside smaller snacks and tapas, plus vermouth on tap as part of a full bar program.
The restaurant will occupy a ground floor retail space inside Slabtown Square, a mixed use development completed in recent years on a site that once held a cluster of concrete warehouses.
