A longtime favorite North Indian restaurant in Houston has permanently closed its doors. After 35 years of operation, Shiva Indian Restaurant served its last meal this month. The restaurant team shared the official closure announcement on social media on August 21.
Houston’s Shiva Indian Restaurant Closes After 35 Years
Located at 5220 Buffalo Speedway, the restaurant was known for its North Indian dishes, buffet, and affordable prices.
On August 21, Shiva Indian Restaurant team officially shared the news of its closure. According to the Chron, the restaurant shuttered after serving its final meal on August 13 and also closed its online ordering.
The team behind the restaurant shared that it was a difficult decision, but “the time to pack up our tandoor and parking sign has come.”
In its announcement, the restaurant said it had served generations of Houston families. The owners thanked the community for its support and said retirement was behind the decision to close.
“We are very excited for this new season of retirement in our lives where we can sit down with a cold mango lassi in one hand and hold our little grandkids in the other,” said the team.

Legacy of the Restaurant
The Oberoi family founded the restaurant in 1990 at 2514 Times Boulevard in Rice Village. The restaurant relocated to Buffalo Speedway in 2022. The Hoodline report mentioned that Rick Oberoi worked at Shiva Indian Restaurant and grew his hospitality group, Oberoi Holdings Inc., beyond the Rice Village region.
