A beloved neighborhood restaurant in South Boston is making room for more guests.
Petula’s, the rustic, bistro-style all-day restaurant at 81 L Street, is expanding into the building next door. Owner Rachel Titcomb confirmed the expansion with What Now Boston, though construction is still in its early stages and a projected completion date has not yet been announced. Titcomb said she expects to share more details in the coming weeks.
According to a recent report from Caught in Southie, the expansion will give Petula’s more room for seating, a second bar, and larger parties and events. The existing European-inspired space currently offers 10 bar seats and 50 dining room seats, along with seasonal patio seating and a café walk-up window.
Titcomb opened Petula’s in May 2023 alongside restaurateur Mike Shaw, whose portfolio includes Loco Taqueria and Fat Baby. A Broadway Restaurant Group alum, Titcomb draws inspiration from her experiences traveling as well as growing up on a farm in New Hampshire.
Tucked into the corner of L and East Fourth Streets, Petula’s was designed as a welcoming, all-day neighborhood spot, with a menu centered around seasonal, local ingredients and produce sourced from New England farms.
The restaurant’s menu is designed to carry diners from morning to night, with options ranging from craft coffee, açai bowls, and breakfast burritos to sandwiches, artisanal pizzas, salads, burgers, and chicken wings. The beverage program follows suit, offering natural, organically farmed wines sourced through Neighborhood Wines in the South End, plus a range of draft beers and classic cocktails with creative twists.
The new space will give Petula’s even more room to welcome diners, host larger gatherings, and continue growing its South Boston footprint. Stay tuned for additional details as construction progresses.
