Pico, a Mexican-inspired restaurant and bar from chef Jacob Croom, is preparing to open at 365 19th St. in Oakland in December, according to The San Francisco Chronicle

Pico is Croom’s first permanent restaurant. He previously operated My Friend Fernando, a Bay Area pop-up known for its Mexican-inspired tortas.  Croom plans to bring elements of the pop-up’s menu to the new restaurant while expanding into other dishes and a bar program.

The upcoming restaurant will serve seasonal Mexican food, with tortas among its central offerings. Sandwiches with oversized pork chop milanesa and maitake mushrooms covered in mole negro are some of the examples on the menu of Croom’s earlier pop-up.

The menu is also expected to include seafood dishes such as ceviche and tuna tostadas. Chorizo-stuffed chicken wings are among the planned bar snacks, giving the restaurant options beyond its sandwiches and seafood.

Croom envisions Pico as a casual establishment serving food and drinks into the evening. The concept will combine a restaurant and bar rather than operate solely as a daytime sandwich business.

A specific opening date has not been confirmed in the information provided.
