A community favorite, Mexican dining destination Moderno Tacos & Tex Mex is preparing to permanently close its doors. The restaurant, located in the Westchase District, will serve its final dinner by the end of this month.

Houston’s Moderno Set To Close

Well-known for its cheerful atmosphere and vibrant flavors, Moderno Tacos serves authentic and scratch-made dishes.

The restaurant is known for its breakfast tacos, which are made with homemade tortillas. Other menu items include nachos, fajitas, enchiladas and salads. The restaurant also has a full bar and serves handmade margaritas.

In a Facebook announcement, the restaurant team shared the closure news. The team said, “Thank you for the love, Houston! Moderno will be closing at the end of October, with our final day on October 24th. The good news? Our breakfast tacos aren’t going anywhere — they’ll be available at Palazzo’s kitchen!

Located on Briar Forest Drive in Houston, Moderno will serve its last customers on October 24. The team thanked the Houston community for their support and said, “Stay tuned for more details, and from the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU for your support over the years.”

While the restaurant is saying goodbye, its famous Breakfast Tacos will be available at Palazzo’s.

Reason Behind the Closure

According to the CultureMap, Moderno, owned by John Moore, opened its doors in 2014. The restaurant is located in the same shopping center as Palazzo, an Italian restaurant operated by Moore.

In the report, the owner stated that the lease for the restaurant property is ending. He said that not renewing the lease is a good decision for the business, as they aim to focus more on Palazzo’s operations.

He also added that moving Breakfast Tacos to Palazzo’s Westchase will help retain staff, serve regular customers, and strengthen the core business.
