Motherland Hub African Market is moving to a newly constructed, expanded storefront. According to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation permit, the new market is at 7130 Fry Road, Unit D, in the Fry Tealbrook retail center in Cypress.

The permit further details that construction is already underway and is slated to wrap up next month. The business invested roughly $100,000 into the new construction project and retail renovation for the 1,870-square-foot market buildout.

Owner and founder Kate Oni was listed on the permit. What Now Houston reached out to Oni to find out more about the new construction and move. Unfortunately, we did not hear back by the time of this publication.

“We are an African store that sells authentic African foodstuffs, groceries, spices, fresh produce, and traditional products from different African countries,” the Motherland Hub African Market website reads.

“Our goal is to bring the taste of Africa closer to our community with quality products and excellent customer service.”

Oni founded Motherland Hub African Market as an e-commerce, home-delivery, and pickup operation, run alongside her existing local venture, Kattie’s Beauty Salon. The market was created to provide a dedicated, accessible hub for African and Caribbean immigrants living in Texas to find familiar ingredients without having to travel long distances. The business emphasizes quality, community connection, and cultural preservation through food, building a close relationship with its customer base.

Over time, Motherland Hub expanded its inventory to include a wide range of specialty items, including Ijebu garri, yellow garri, specialized meats such as goat meat and cow feet, traditional ingredients like uziza leaves and ugu, and imports like Milo and Peak Milk.
