Starr Bakery is transitioning from a purely mobile pop-up to opening its very first permanent brick-and-mortar storefront. According to a recently filed permit with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the popular, viral boutique bakery plans to open at 8141 Highway 6, Building A, in Missouri City.
The address is in the Lifetime Plaza shopping center in Missouri City’s Oyster Creek neighborhood. The plaza is a growing medical, food, and beverage hub, featuring popular spots such as Feng Cha.
The permit for the new Starr Bakery notes that construction is expected to start toward the end of next month and wrap up by the end of the year. If permitting goes smoothly and the estimated $300,000 construction project stays on track, the new Starr Bakery should debut in Missouri City this winter or early 2027.
At the helm of the opening is co-founder and co-owner Anthony Hicks, who was listed on the permit. What Now Houston reached out to Hicks to find out more about the exciting debut. Unfortunately, we did not hear back by the time of this publication.
“Whether you’re planning a birthday bash, need custom cookie boxes for an event, or just want to personalize your favorite treats, we’ve got you covered,” the Starr Bakery website reads.
“From custom flavors to special packaging, we love turning your dessert dreams into delicious reality.”

Starr Bakery is famous for attracting massive lines for its decadent, oversized cinnamon rolls, stuffed brown butter cookies, and brownies. But it all started with its founder, Niayah Hicks. Hicks grew up in Houston and developed a love for baking at just 7 years old, baking at home with her father and grandmother and following online recipes. Her background and love of visual art heavily influenced her creative, topping-heavy dessert style.
What started as a family hobby became a business when Hicks, along with her father and grandmother, formally established Starr Bakery LLC at 13. She initially grew her audience by consistently filming and posting her baking process on social media. Her early business grew by taking custom orders and selling her treats to classmates at school.

“My biggest milestone so far has been seeing younger people look up to me — something I always wished I had when I was first starting out. Through social media, I’ve had the chance to connect with so many aspiring bakers, and it means the world to know that I’m inspiring others just by sharing my journey,” the brand’s website reads.
“My goal isn’t just to grow my business — I want to be the encouragement someone else needs to believe in themselves and go after their dreams, even though it may seem scary.”
Around 2022, Starr Bakery transitioned into a highly sought-after mobile pop-up and fixture at the Houston Farmers Market. Viral TikTok and Instagram videos helped the bakery build a massive cult following. Customers regularly wait in line for over an hour, and the business sells upwards of 1,000 signature cinnamon rolls—featuring unique flavors like Biscoff, Blueberry Lemon, and Apple Fritter—every weekend.
Now embarking on its first storefront, Starr Bakery is taking its sweet offerings to new heights.
“Looking ahead, I hope to expand Starr Bakery into a bigger space and continue building a brand that spreads creativity, art, confidence, and connection because every Starr has a light worth sharing,” the brand’s website reads.
Starr Bakery is anticipated to open in Missouri City at 8141 Highway 6, Building A, by the end of this year or early next year.
