Recently submitted permit documents show that K Dawgs Big Nickel Tavern, located at 2490 Sullivant Ave, is planning on renovating the space and adding a kitchen. Per language in the permit filing, the work, which is projected to cost $30,000, will include an interior remodel of an existing pantry area of the tavern to convert the space into a new kitchen for the tavern.

The tavern, which is owned by Kenny Koon, sells beer and spirits, and the interior of the bar features high top tables as well as bar seating for its guests and has a number of TVs throughout the bar as well as darts and a billiards table, pictures from the tavern’s Facebook account shows

In addition to owning the tavern, last year, Koon filed a permit to open a different concept, called Kenny’s Bottom to the Top Diner, located at 1959 Sullivant Ave. In a phone interview last June, Koon told What Now Columbus that the diner would operate on the ground floor of the building that previously housed five apartment units, but the timeline for opening that concept wasn’t firm.

What Now Columbus reached out to Koon to learn more about the kitchen addition and what K Dawgs will serve once the renovations are complete. Koon shared that it’s too early in the permitting process to determine when the kitchen will open, but the hood has already been built. And once the permits are in hand, he estimates that the work should be complete in about three weeks.

“We’ll have fryers, a griddle and burners,” he shared of the equipment. And as far as the food offerings, guests can expect a variety of items.

“We will serve burgers, wings and breakfast food,” he said.
