Castellucci Hospitality Group (CHG), the team behind Bar Mercado, Cooks & Soldiers, Double Zero, Sugo and The Iberian Pig, opened the doors to Recess, its second concept at Krog Street Market and first “fine-casual” food stall, Monday, February 26.
Led by chef Victoria Shore, the “healthy-ish” stall is open for lunch and dinner and features a vegetable-centric menu that aims to offer “delicious food that makes you feel good” at an affordable price, according to a press release Monday.
The menu was inspired with an emphasis on lighter, healthier fare and features mostly plant-based dishes including a variety of salads, grain bowls, sandwiches, toasts and vegetable sides, with a handful of optional meat, seafood and vegetable add-ons.
Highlights from the opening menu include:
- “Bob Barley” bowl with barley, red quinoa, eggplant-tahini puree, carrots, zucchini, kale, red onion-apple agrodolce and sprouts
- Raspberry + Banana toast with sunflower butter, raspberry, dark chocolate and lemon cream
- Dirt Candy featuring arugula, beets, carrots, winter slaw, savory granola and turmeric-black pepper vinaigrette
- Mushroom patty melt layered with shiitake, crimini, swiss cheese, red cabbage and mustard aioli on rye bread
Non-alcoholic options include seasonal d-tox organic juice, rotating smoothie, kombucha, cold brew on tap, lemonade, tea and house-made drinks such as the “turmeric tonic” made with fresh turmeric, ginger, lemon, orange, mixed peppercorn and soda water.
Alcoholic beverages include a short list of curated cocktails, a rotating, seasonal frozen cocktail and wine and beer by the glass.
Recess boasts 15 bar seats and is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
