UPDATE (November 7, 2018): Details Unveiled For ‘Boxcar,’ Hop City’s Lee + White Restaurant

Hop City Craft Beer & Wine is moving forward with its 8,800-square-foot location in the Lee + White development.

Owner Kraig Torres last week filed a permit application with the City of Atlanta to build out the two-story Hop City in historic West End.

Situated adjacent to Monday Night’s Garage, at 1020 White Street SW, the new Hop City will offer a soon-to-be-named restaurant on the second level.

An estimated $700,000 could be spent converting the two-story warehouse building into the forthcoming restaurant and retail store, according to the application.

“I’m really excited about getting the place open,” Torres in a telephone interview Friday told What Now Atlanta.

Pending permitting approval, the Lee + White Hop City could open as early as October 2018 or as late as January 2019.

“It all comes down to how quickly the City can approve permits,” he said.

Matt Hutchins, the executive chef at sister concept Barleygarden Kitchen and Craft Bar, is behind the menu of the soon-to-be-named second-floor eatery.

Torres and his team are “waiting for the trademark attorney to tell me that it’s official” before announcing the restaurant’s name.

“We want to make sure we’re in the clear before we announce the name.”

The Barleygarden brand is also expanding.

A location was recently announced for the Pinewood Forest development and Torres said an outpost in Birmingham is in the works and could open next.
