El Compa, La Cruda isn’t owner Rafael Gonzalez’s first foray into the restaurant business. His other establishment, Birria El Compa on 3700 East Charleston Blvd in Las Vegas offers authentic Mexican food and was well-deserving of a second location due to its popularity with tourists. But with El Compa, La Cruda, Gonzalez chose to mix it up.

“In this place, we are making a little twist,” Gonzalez laughs. “We are trying to be the cure of the hangover.”

Gonzalez’s plan to cure your hangover comes from traditional Mexican dishes using beef as a primary ingredient. Of course, El Compa, La Cruda will serve the ultimate hangover cure, more beer (pending licensing).

While those twists will reflect in minor adjustments to the menu and the name, El Compa, La Cruda will stay similar to its predecessor.

“Keeping the same regional Mexican service” and authentic food non-negotiable for Gonzalez. You will not find taco salads or burritos on the menu.

“That’s not Mexican,” Gonzalez exclaimed in a phone interview with What Now Las Vegas, referring to “Americanized” Mexican restaurants.

El Compa, La Cruda, which Gonzalez says translates to “El Compa, The Hangover,” is targeted to open in “the middle of April.” It’ll be located on 3111 S Valley View Blvd in Las Vegas.
