After making a name for itself in Denver, AK BBQ is heading out to Sin City for its first brick-and-mortar location.
“I have sad but sweet news, AK BBQ will be relocating to Las Vegas to open an official restaurant,” the barbecue joint posted onto Instagram last year. “This move will not happen until late Oct. 2020 so please continue to catch us every weekend on Colfax n Chambers.”
After permits came through AK BBQ became official in the state of Nevada a few months ago as it continues to work hard “to make a dream into reality.”
AK BBQ Bar n Grill will open in Las Vegas on May 8, 2021, Owner Karline Anderson told What Now Las Vegas in an email.
“It has always been my dream to have a restaurant and it’s sad to say COVID gave me an opportunity,” Anderson said. “With all the closures, I was able to get a lease at a lower price. I was given a chance.”
AK, which stands for “Ass-Kicking,” was coming to the city one way or another, Anderson said.
“I was just going to bring my trailer…,” Anderson said. “I sold my house to make this happen and brought along three employees who were on unemployment, and now, are getting nothing with me. They stayed with me. Small Business loans won’t help me so I’m hoping for a fast and successful grand opening.”
With a variety of southern cooking, AK BBQ became famous in the Denver-area for its ribs plate, brisket, pork link sandwich and more.
The AK BBQ Restaurant will be moving into the Historical Commercial Center District at 900 Karen Ave, according to lease agreements with the city. It leased a 3,360 square foot space in March, Suites H 101 and 102, after it spent just one month on the market.
To be located in the New Orleans Square, AK BBQ will be next to the Rosen Club, the Sahara Event Center and FortBedlam.
