Palm Springs’ Workshop Kitchen is moving forward with plans to open an outpost in Los Angeles, at 127 S La Brea Avenue.

The City of Los Angeles recently issued the necessary permits for the project to begin its buildout in space formerly belonging to Odys + Penelope, a grill house centered around its Brazilian-style churrasco that closed its doors in mid-2019.

“After exactly nine months in [Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety], I finally pulled our construction permit for Workshop LA,” Chef/Owner Michael Beckman over the weekend posted to the restaurant’s Instagram profile.

“It’s on!”

Construction is already underway and there was “particularly heavy movement in the space yesterday,” staffers at the neighboring Champions retail store told What Now Los Angeles (WNLA) over the phone Tuesday.

An estimated $500,000 is expected to be spent converting Odys + Penelope into Workshop Kitchen, including the addition of mezzanine space, according to the official plans.

Reps Workshop Kitchen, which has an existing outpost in Palm Springs, at 800 N Palm Canyon Dr., did not immediately respond to WNLA’s request for comment Tuesday.

It is expected to open later this year.
