Santa Monica’s up-and-coming bakery Jyan Isaac Bread is expected to open its storefront in September, Founder and Baker Jyan Isaac Horwitz told What Now Los Angeles. Currently, the location, at 1622 Ocean Park Boulevard, serves solely as a production space.
Eventually, the storefront will also share its space with a pizzeria called Ghisello though the opening of the restaurant is unknown.
Horwitz found his passion with bread as a full-time baker at Venice bakery and cafe Gjusta. After two years of working there, Gjusta temporarily closed in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Later, Horwitz began selling loaves of bread to friends and neighbors by baking in his family’s kitchen, and from there, word spread with orders growing to more than 200 loaves per week.
Menu items include seeded sourdough, country loaf, whole wheat loaf, peach jam, and cultured butter.
Bruce Horwitz, the father of Jyan Horwitz, owns the property in Santa Monica, which previously housed a pizza restaurant called The Slice.
