Regal Cinema’s 4DX Theater has finally arrived and opens Friday, December 20 at Atlantic Station with the showing of the new Star Wars movie.
What Now Atlanta first broke the news of the planned 4DX in 2017.
The new 4DX theater with technology, developed by CJ 4DPLEX, includes motion-enabled chairs, environmental controls for simulated weather and other conditions like scent modules, which will be fully synchronized to the movie’s storyline to mimic what the characters see, feel and smell in real-time.
It is part of Regal Atlantic Station’s overall remodel which includes the conversion of four auditoriums to its VIP format.
Think comfy electric recliners, spacious walkways and now an immersive experience.
Other changes include a remodeled façade and signage fronting the remodeled central park, a new ticketing experience, enhanced concession areas and cosmetic changes to walls, flooring, restrooms, and signage.
An estimated $1,700,000 was spent on the conversion, according to initial permits.
Regal’s original plans to convert the Atlantic Station cinema were floated in 2017 following a 2016 announcement to bring the 4DX technology to 17 screens in “key” U.S. markets.
The Atlantic Station Regal got first dibs on the 4DX theater because it is Regal’s highest performing theater in Georgia.
In all honesty, I DREAD coming to Regal Cinemas Atlantic Station. It’s by far the most expensive and outdated movie theater in Atlanta. My parents always insist on going because the location is convenient but I prefer going to AMC Theaters at Phipps Plaza. It’s much better because of the reclining seats
