Decatur Follows In Atlanta’s Footsteps, Shutters All Restaurant Dining Rooms Indefinitely

Decatur has moved to close its bars and limit restaurants to takeout only effective immediately.

The City’s Mayor Patti Garrett Thursday took the action shortly after Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms signed a similar Executive Order.

It’s the latest effort by a local government to “slow the spread” of COVID-19 during the ongoing pandemic.

Garrett’s move comes in the way of a “Public Health Emergency Order” which allows for takeout and delivery only and between the hours of 7 a.m. and 9 p.m.

There is also a provision to allow restaurants with existing alcohol licenses to sell alcohol to-go.

Atlanta Mayor Bottoms is waiting for direction from the state to make such a move.

Several additional Georgia Cities are expected to follow suit, joining 25 states across the country that have mandated closures of restaurant dining rooms statewide.

Locally Brookhaven and Dunwoody were the first Cities to take such measures.

The State of California has gone on complete lockdown, initiating a “Safe at Home” order that requires residents to not leave the house with the exception of essential needs such as to get groceries or visit the pharmacy.
