Oakhurst’s Beloved Porchfest Returns for Its 11th Year
On October 11, all the Oakhurst Porches will turn into stages for the musicians and performers. Porchfest’25 marks the 11th annual celebration in Oakhurst, Decatur, Georgia. The music fest will be hosted all day, from 12 pm to 7 pm.
Visitors can stroll from porch to porch, enjoying the event’s casual, community-driven vibe. The event is entirely powered by local residents, who open their porches for performances. The residents open their spaces for the performances.
Community members can participate as hosts, performers, or volunteers, or simply enjoy strolling from porch to porch. The residents can also be the audience and enjoy the event and visit porch-to-porch and have fun.
Legacy of Porchfest: Music, Food, and Community
The event began as a concept to bring the community together in 2015. The Oakhurst neighborhood decided to turn their open spaces into performing stages for the local musicians. Lesley Greene and Gretchen Hildreth’s idea expanded quickly and turned into one of the most awaited community events.
From the beginning the entire event has been volunteer-run and grassroots. From folk to jazz and rock, musicians from all genres perform at the event. In 2015, Porchfest hosted more than 130 musical performances. The following years the event witnessed even greater participation, with 185 performances in 2016 and 220 in 2017.
Each year, Porchfest attracts more musicians and a bigger audience. Even after a decade, Porchfest remains a true and casual celebration of community and art.
Eclectic Lineup and Highlights
Porchfest has announced this year’s extensive lineup, featuring around 200 performances across the open spaces in the Oakhurst neighborhood. Check out the performance lineup and detailed map here.
As it is a grassroots event, the Porchfest does not offer any vending program or food court. The local vendors can choose to sell their products, food, and other items in private spaces, like in lawns or driveways. Residents can offer their areas to vendors to set up stalls. Beyond the musical fest, the event is an art fest; locals can put up shops to sell art and crafts.
Porchfest is a casual, community-driven music festival open to all. This year marks its 11th annual celebration.
