The Korean BBQ and Seafood restaurant Jang Su Jang was found to have multiple violations. The inspection resulted in an unsatisfactory score of 67. According to the report, the violations included those dealing with sanitary habits as well as food storage violations.
The report began by stating that a lack of managerial control was seen as the reason for the violations that were observed during the inspection. The clothing and belongings of employees were stored above the kitchen prep table and above clean dishes in the dishwashing area.
Raw beef was seen being prepared in a sink next to cooked beef, and unwashed vegetables were stored on top of washed vegetables. Raw fish was removed from its packaging and placed on top of ready-to-eat foods, all causing possible cross-contamination.
The risk of cross-contamination is high as the placements of various food items were not done properly, the report said. Some were being cooled in the walk-in freezer while others were not, it was noted.
Apart from this, unapproved pesticides were found stored above the clean dishes in the dishwashing area. Cans of butane were stored near clean pots, which violated health regulations.
Further, inspectors also found no “employee must wash hands” signage in the washroom. Several other unsanitary conditions were observed, like the accumulation of grease and debris above the stove’s vent hoods.
Follow-Up Inspection
Several food items were found not to have been stored at the right temperatures. The full inspection report can be found online.
The inspectors have scheduled a follow-up inspection of Jang Su Jang within the next 10 days. The failure to address the issues reported will result in the suspension of the permit as per the health department guidelines.
