Mundo Gourmet is a casual fast-food restaurant offering Venezuelan-style dishes. The report noted that the person in charge was unable to recall all reportable symptoms and diseases as required.

An employee health agreement form was not provided for a selected employee as required. In another observation, an employee was seen drinking from a water bottle and a coffee cup while in the food preparation area.

The inspectors pointed out that employees shall consume food and drink only in approved designated areas separate from food preparation and serving areas, equipment or utensil areas, and food storage areas. Inspectors also noted that an open box of raw bacon was stored above cooked black beans and raw beef was stored above mayonnaise in the reach-in cooler.

Raw bacon was stored behind queso and lettuce in the preparation cooler. The inspection cited improper food storage that could lead to cross-contamination. In a corrective action, the food was removed from the cooler.

The report mentioned that an employee was observed washing equipment and then resuming empanada preparation without changing gloves. As a result, the food was discarded.

The time/temperature control for safety foods was held above 41 degrees Fahrenheit in the reach-in coolers or at room temperature. Noting that the time/temperature control for safe food shall be maintained at 41°F (5°C) or below, the inspectors discarded the food.

Cooked black beans, cooked ground beef, and pre-portioned shakes prepared on Monday were observed without a date. Boxes of corn meal and oil were observed stored directly on the floor, and shredded chicken was found stored in a container at the in-use warewashing sink.

The health inspectors also observed that clean food storage equipment was stored next to the handwashing sink without a barrier in place. The report also mentioned the presence of flies in the facility and used food coloring in the dessert.

Follow-Up Inspections Scheduled

While several violations were corrected at the time of inspection, health officials identified additional issues that Mundo Gourmet must address before the next routine visit. A follow-up inspection is scheduled on July 26, 2025.

The restaurant has been instructed to take corrective actions before the follow-up inspection.
