Celebrated Charleston Chefs to Be Featured in Hired Guns June 2025

Gunshow’s guest chef dinner series, Hired Guns, invites acclaimed chefs from around the country and Canada to cook for diners in Atlanta.  The next event on June 22 will feature two chefs and restaurateurs from Charleston: Jill Mathias and Juan Cassalett.

Chefs Mathias and Cassalett are renowned for their European and Spanish culinary influences and for the two Charleston restaurants they co-own. They will prepare their hallmark dishes for guests at the Hired Guns event. They will be joined by Gunshow’s chef de cuisine, Cody Chassar, and his skilled team.

Chef couple Jill Mathias and Juan Cassalett are the co-owners of two of Charleston’s beloved restaurants: Chez Nous and Malagón Mercado y Tapería. The chefs are widely regarded as two of the top culinary talents in the South.

Chez Nous, located in downtown Charleston, is described as a “pint-sized, convivial, neighborhood restaurant.” It features a daily changing menu that includes food and wine from Southern France, Northern Italy, and Northern Spain. It welcomes guests to enjoy rustic European comfort food inspired by the flavors of those regions.

Malagón is a market and tapería that specializes exclusively in Spanish cuisine. Located in Charleston’s Cannonborough-Elliottborough neighborhood, the menu at the tapería features small and large plates of dishes from Spain’s regional cuisine. Chef Cassalett honors his Spanish roots by using authentic techniques and premium ingredients from Spain and the Low Country to prepare traditional tapas.

Limited Tickets Available

A limited number of tickets remain on sale for Gunshow’s Hired Guns dinner featuring Chefs Jill Mathias and Juan Cassalett on June 22. Tickets are currently available for the 8:30 PM seating. A single event ticket for two guests is priced at $300.

Located at 924 Garrett Street in Atlanta, Gunshow offers an interactive and lively dining experience and was MICHELIN-recommended in 2023 and 2024. Since 2013, it has invited guest chefs six times each year for the Hired Guns dinner series, which was introduced as an innovative way to showcase chefs and their culinary styles.
