Among many locations of Pita Mediterranean Street Food, one recently received an unsatisfactory score. A health inspection revealed several violations at this restaurant, including a repeated offense. Most violations were due to the person-in-charge’s lack of active managerial control.

The report cited a lack of proper food safety protocols among staff and the person in charge (PIC). Violations included employees handling food without hair restraints and drinking from uncovered cups in the kitchen. Staff did not change gloves after handling personal items, and one person was cutting zucchini without washing their hands. Employees stored their food and spices in the dry storage area.

A repeated offense noted was the use of the hand sink in the back kitchen to store wiping cloths. The hand sink in the front kitchen was used to wash vegetables and to store water pitchers.

The restaurant did not have a test strip to check the sanitizer used. Some pans in the facility had sticker residue on them while in use.

The report also documents various temperature-controlled foods stored at the wrong temperature. Some of the ingredients include hummus (61°F), tomato (59°F), garlic sauce (58°F), lettuce (58°F), falafel (61°F), and more. The standard temperature to store these ingredients is 41°F or below.

There were multiple containers of sauces, water, oil, paprika, and seasoning, which were without labels. A container of vacuum-packaged fish was thawing while still in the vacuum packaging. This violates standard thawing protocols.

A detailed health report of Pita Mediterranean Street’s recent inspection is available online.

Follow-Up Inspection

The management of the restaurant was handed a list of corrections to be implemented. While some were implemented on-site, the others need to be fixed before the reinspection. The inspectors will confirm the corrections during a follow-up inspection on August 1, 2025.

The GNR Public Health Department continues its efforts to uphold food safety standards across the county.
