According to the GNR Public Health Department, A Taste of Heaven was out of compliance with food-safety code. In a routine inspection on December 9, the restaurant was cited for improper thawing and a heavy buildup of grease and debris, among other violations.

A Taste of Heaven is known for its soul food, baked goods, and BBQ. As per the inspection report, the restaurant reported multiple violations, which are as follows:

  • The facility did not have a qualified person in charge who could educate the employees on food safety practices required under the Georgia Food Rules, the report said.
  • An employee did not wash their hands after handling raw pork chops and then handled ready-to-eat items and equipment immediately after removing gloves.
  • The report said chicken was being thawed inside the hand sink, where a scrubbing brush was also stored. The report stated the hand sink is reserved solely for handwashing.
  • Raw shrimp was stored above cooked chicken, posing a risk of cross-contamination.
  • Food containers were found with visible debris and stains.
  • A container of chicken was labeled with an inaccurate preparation date.
  • Raw chicken was being thawed at room temperature in the hand sink.

The official report said that a follow-up inspection will be conducted within 10 days, that is December 19 at the restaurant. The eatery must correct all the violations before the reinspection. The failure to do so will result in the suspension of their health permit.
