Mexican Eatery in Metro Atlanta Cited for Violations After Health Inspection

The Gwinnett, Newton, and Rockdale County Public Health departments carried out a routine check at Nacion Taco on February 3. The restaurant received a low score after the report identified several health code violations.

Nacion Taco serves authentic Mexican dishes and tap beer. According to the official report, the violations noted are as follows:

  • The report noted that no designated person in charge was present. Although a kitchen employee was identified by management as being responsible, the employee was unaware of this role. The issue was corrected once the person in charge arrived.
  • A kitchen employee was seen handling raw chicken with gloved hands. They were seen changing gloves without washing their hands, and then handling tortilla shells. The employee was instructed to wash hands and change gloves. The contaminated tortillas were discarded.
  • An open mug containing an iced beverage was seen on the prep counter. The Person in charge moved the drink to an approved location.
  • The report noted that peppers had visible mold. They were discarded.
  • The facility offers undercooked beef but failed to include a proper consumer advisory on the menu and menu board. This could not be corrected on-site and must be addressed by February 13, 2026, the report said.

  • Fried chicken, cooked peppers, cooked onions, and chorizo were found to be below the required 135°F. All affected items were discarded during the inspection.
  • Three bottles of chemicals stored in working containers were not labeled with their common names. The person in charge labeled the containers during the inspection.
  • Two butane lighters were observed stored on and above prep surfaces. The person in charge relocated the items to the appropriate storage.
  • The facility did not have test strips to measure sanitizer concentration. This violation could not be corrected during the inspection and requires follow-up.

As per the report, the GNR health departments will conduct a follow-up within 10 days of the inspection. The restaurant must correct all the violations to avoid permit suspension. Two consecutive low scores can result in the suspension of the permit.
