Developed by Atlantic Residential and built by Fortune Johnson, The Crossing at Coal Mountain is expected to become a new community hub in Metro Atlanta’s northern suburbs. The retail plaza project recently announced a significant advancement in its Phase One development.
Brett Bowden, Senior Development Manager of Atlantic Residential, mentioned, “Phase One of the retail plaza marks a significant step forward in bringing our vision for The Crossing at Coal Mountain to life. We’re currently curating retail offerings that will bring new brands while honoring the region with local concepts.”
“The Crossing at Coal Mountain is designed with a strong focus on experience with plans for activated green spaces, community-centered programming, and engaging events. We’re committed to creating a vibrant gathering place that offers residents and guests alike year-round opportunities to come together to shop, dine, and simply enjoy each other’s company,” further added Bowden.
Construction Updates: Retail Offerings and Leasing Strategy
The new development will serve as a central hub for shopping, living, and entertainment for residents and visitors. Phase One of the construction process includes framing of the main building to the fifth floor, two multifamily buildings, and important roads and other infrastructure.
Nearly 60 percent of the retail space will be dedicated to food and beverage concepts, while the remaining space will feature shops and services such as spas and fitness centers. The space also includes a 20,000-square-foot area for market or grocery space and other business services.
JLL, which is a global commercial real estate and investment firm, has been appointed as lead for the project’s retail leasing and marketing of the Crossing at Coal Mountain. To attract premier tenants and to create a lively retail environment, Jennifer Steffen, Vice President of Retail Leasing, and Matt Maloney, Vice President of Retail Leasing, are working together.
“We are excited to partner with Atlantic Residential on The Crossing at Coal Mountain,” said JLL’s Molly Morgan, Executive VP of Retail Leasing. “This area is experiencing tremendous growth, and we look forward to creating a vibrant retail destination that will serve the expanding community while attracting visitors from across North Georgia and the Atlanta area.”
The residential portion is being developed by Toll Brothers, the nation’s leading builder of luxury homes. The project is set to be completed by summer 2026.
