Lanier Islands Resort has announced that the multi-stage renovation of Legacy Lodge, its flagship hotel, is now nearly complete. The coveted lakeside destination in Georgia prepares to offer guests new upgrades, including new mattresses, monochromatic wall finishes, blackout blinds, and more.
Legacy Lodge Undergoes Major Renovation to Enhance Guest Experience

Legacy Lodge, a 216-room cornerstone property at Georgia’s Lanier Islands Resort, is soon going to serve guests in its fully refurbished rooms. The multi-million-dollar renovation began in 2024 and is now nearing completion, with remaining work continuing on a floor-by-floor basis.
While renovations are still underway, the resort has already begun welcoming corporate, leisure, and wedding guests into the refreshed rooms.
“Although we are proud to provide our guests with a variety of accommodation offerings throughout the resort, Legacy Lodge remains our crown jewel,” said Matthew Bowling, President of Lanier Islands Resort.
“From weddings in our Grand Ballroom or Legacy Pointe outdoor venue to meetings in our expansive Conference Center, many of our guests value the convenience of having rooms near our event spaces. Just as we strive to elevate each dining and event experience, we also seek to create an atmosphere where our guests feel entirely comfortable and rested,” Bowling added.
Design and Construction Collaboration
Lanier Islands Resort partnered with de Sola Designs and Performance Construction Services to refresh the guest rooms at its flagship hotel.
Bowling stated that the refurbished rooms at Legacy Lodge are brighter and more welcoming than before. The renovations involved a trendy monochromatic approach for wall finishes with a pure white palette that exudes an open feel. A few rooms at Legacy Lodge have accent walls.
The resort president added that guests at the flagship hotel can find new mattresses and bedding, blackout blinds, 65” flatscreens, updated chairs and desks, and more offerings. French doors were added to the balconies—an upgrade Bowling described as the renovation’s “crowning achievement.”
“Each truly complements the stunning lake views from roughly 75% of our rooms. We want our guests to feel transported, and we believe this design accomplishes that aim beautifully,” Bowling added.
Other Luxury Accommodations at the Resort
In addition to Legacy Lodge, the resort offers several other luxury accommodations along the shores of Lake Lanier. These include Legacy Villas and the LakeHouses at Legacy.
Legacy Villas offers six individually keyed rooms with a central common area and a range of floor plans. As a result, the Villas are popular with corporate groups, large families, golf outings, and bridal parties. Bridal parties are also hosted at Legacy Villas.
The 1,200-square-foot LakeHouses accommodate up to eight guests and include gathering area, a full kitchen, a deck with a gas grill, and a fireplace. Being a pet-friendly accommodation option, LakeHouses is preferred for weekend retreats and family getaways.
A few other lodging options can be found through Lanier Islands Resort partner, Margaritaville at Lanier Islands, at its Camp Margaritaville RV Resort.
Beyond the hotel renovation, the resort is also expanding its 2026 event calendar with new concerts and festivals.
The Lights Fest is among the upcoming events slated for March 27-28. Attendees can enjoy mesmerizing views of biodegradable, fire-resistant lanterns at the Georgia retreat in the night sky. This festival debuted in October last year at the resort; 4,500 attendees experienced the event.
Ever since its launch in 2008, Legacy Lodge has claimed several accolades, including many Travelers’ Choice Awards from TripAdvisor. In addition, the flagship hotel at Lanier Islands Resort received its first Readers’ Choice Award from ConventionSouth Magazine. Last year, Legacy Lodge was named a Best of Georgia Vacation Destination by the Georgia Business Journal.
As Legacy Lodge moves closer to welcome guests at its renovated space, Lanier Islands Resort gears up to enhance its accommodations and events. Guests at the lakeside venue can expect some attractive experiences this year through these developments.
