More creative energy is on its way to the city center.

Anu Vishwa wants to help transform the South Downtown Atlanta neighborhood to make it more art-focused, and not just a place where people come to do business.

She and her partner have filed plans to open Artisans Bar & Gallery in the neighborhood this spring, at 138 Peachtree Southwest. The concept will be an art gallery focused on lesser well-known local artists, Vishwa told What Now Atlanta (WNA) on Tuesday. The space will feature a bar and host art workshops for drawing, photography, and other mediums.

“We want our gallery to be a place that generates new ideas and brings creative minds together.”

She is inspired by establishments like Mammal Gallery, which has succeeded in attracting more creative energy and generating more foot traffic in the neighborhood. South Downtown is mainly occupied by empty storefronts and government buildings where people come to do business, then leave before it gets dark.

“There are a lot of young people moving into Downtown and there are also some older folks that have stuck around. There seems to be a lot of talk about redeveloping Underground Atlanta and large-scale things like that, but I don’t see it happening. We want to be a part of this movement of more independent business owners coming into the area with a mission of running establishments for the people that actually live in the neighborhood.”

Vishwa adds that the Atlanta Downtown Neighborhood Association has been very supportive in the process.

Her business partner will be the mastermind behind the mixology, who will be curating the drink menu with art-themed names which guests will enjoy at Artisans Bar & Gallery.
