The transformation of North DeKalb Mall is set to kick off soon, with a “demolition day” for the new Lulah Hills development planned for June 26, 2024.

The 73-acre mixed-use destination being developed by EDENS will include 320,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, 1,700 multifamily units, 100 townhomes and a 150-key hotel. There will also be a Path Foundation trail connection to Emory University.

“Saying goodbye is never easy,” said an announcement. “North DeKalb Mall has been an integral part of this community for nearly 60 years. Now the time has come for a new chapter in the story.”

North DeKalb Mall first opened in 1965. Real estate developer EDENS purchased the property in 2021.

The AMC movie theater located at the property will remain and be remodeled, according to Domo Realty. The first phase, which is expected to include a parking deck, is projected to be finished by 2025. Ten percent of the residential units will be reserved for workforce housing.

Lulah Hills will be in Decatur, nestled between Birch and Oak Tree roads.
