They’ve Got Bigger Fish To Fry
The Georgia Aquarium located in downtown Atlanta, is adjacent to Centennial Olympic Park and the new World of Coca-Cola and sits on 9.5 acres of land, which was donated by the Coca-Cola Company. Currently the world’s largest aquarium, The Georgia Aquarium has more than eight million gallons of water and more aquatic life than any other aquarium. The exterior of the building was designed to look like a giant ship breaking through a wave. As guests enter the huge atrium inside the building, they are led into the facility by a “wall of fish.”
Alas, within the deepest dark blue water of this aquatic fantasyland lie gigantic secrets. Plans are underway for a brand new exhibit, which will open in Summer 2010. The temporary African Penguin exhibit will transition into what will be the newest permanent exhibit. With several building permits filed with the city late last year and with quite a chunk of change being spent, The Georgia Aquarium has yet to release any details on the new exhibit.
With continued growth, The Georgia Aquarium continues to be the big catch in aquatic attractions. Stimulating the local Atlanta economy through daily guests and expansion, The Georgia Aquarium has also teamed up with “Diana: A Celebration” with the Royal Combo — a chance to discover some of the crown jewels of the ocean at the Georgia Aquarium and then enjoy “Diana: A Celebration,” an intimate presentation of the life and work of one of the most remarkable women of our time.
For the new African Penguin exhibit, we propose the spy penguins from Disney’s Madagascar, because, lets face it, that would be perfectly awesome.

Very cool information and a nice changeup from the dismal retail picture we’re in right now. Speaking from the convention side of things, the Georgia Aquarium has been a huge win for the city. Adding the Civil Rights Museum and the National Museum of Health, as well as the College Football Hall of Fame, nearby will only add to the vibrancy of the Centennial Park/Luckie Marietta district.
