A new student housing tower is proposed for Midtown, and it could rise next to an iconic eatery.

The team behind The Varsity, a longtime restaurant known for burgers, hot dogs, fries and more, has an agreement to sell 2 acres of the property, Atlanta Business Chronicle reports.

But fans of The Varsity don’t need to worry. According to the news outlet, the sale and potential future development would not impact operations of the restaurant. The family that owns The Varsity has been considering redevelopment of the valuable property for years.

Residential space could land at the site. Landmark Properties is eyeing the property for a student housing tower with 2,000 beds and amenities like a pool, sauna and study space.

Landmark Properties is an Athens-based real estate firm specializing in the development, construction, management and investment of residential communities across the U.S. Their portfolio currently has 10 properties in Georgia, including communities in Athens, Kennesaw and Atlanta. The company is the team behind Atlanta properties The Mark Atlanta, The Standard at Atlanta and The Legacy at Centennial.

The Varsity at 61 North Avenue NW is the chain’s original location. It first opened in 1928 and has since become a local institution and expanded to a total of nine locations in the state, including two outposts at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. And another one is in the works; a former Burger King in Watkinsville is expected to be converted into a location of The Varsity.
