The fitness center last week filed plans with City of Atlanta.

Alder Partners LLC, an Independent Planet Fitness franchisee, is planning a new location of the gymnasium for the Adamsville neighborhood of Atlanta.

The new Planet Fitness will open in space formerly occupied by Maxway, a discount retailer chain offering clothing, housewares and more, at 3599 Martin L. King JR Dr. SW.

Planet Fitness will become the anchor of the Collier Heights Plaza shopping center when it replaces Maxway.

A permit application late last week was filed with City of Atlanta to buildout the 17,133-square-foot project. Construction could cost $800,000.

The Dogwood Restaurant Consulting Group is expediting the permitting process.

Alder Partners also own and operate the Planet Fitness in Greenbriar Mall among other Atlanta-area locations in addition to outposts in Boston, Massachusetts.

The New Hampshire-based fitness concept has more than 1,400 clubs. It markets itself as a “Judgement Free Zone” that caters to novice and casual gym users.
