American Express this week filed plans with the City of Atlanta for its Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport Centurion Lounge slated to land at the airport in 2023.

The official building permit application arrives only days after the payment card services company unveiled its plans which call for the world’s largest outpost of the airport lounge, measuring in at more than 26,000 square feet. For comparison, the JFK Centurion Lounge is 15,000 square feet, according to The Points Guy.

In addition to listing the actual square footage as being just shy of 30,000 square feet, the building permit application makes another revelation — a construction price tag of $36,375,105.00.

The permit, filed by Atlanta’s New South Construction, plainly calls for the development of “a 29,080 square-foot Centurion Lounge for American Express in Concourse E of the Atlanta Airport.”

Corgan, the architect that designed other Centurion Lounges including in Miami and Dallas-Forth Worth, is listed on the project paperwork as the architect of record.

Elements of the lounge include multiple outdoor areas, a design “influenced by Atlanta’s local landscape and culture,” locally-inspired beverage and dining selections, including a modern bourbon bar, curated by a local chef and Centurion Lounge mixologist, Jim Meehan, and other amenities “specific to the Centurion Lounge in Atlanta that will be announced closer to opening.”

Last week’s Centurion Lounge news was not a surprise. Atlanta City Council voted on the project in mid-2021, as first reported by What Now Atlanta.
