Atlantic Station presents: ‘Live. Work. Play: The IMAX Experience in limited production’
Regal Cinemas 16 at Atlantic Station was selected as one of four theatre’s nationwide to receive the newest IMAX technology.
Regal Entertainment Group announced Regal Cinemas 16’s inclusion last week.
Work has commenced and will be complete early December just in time for the release of several holiday productions.
These IMAX Theatres will showcase films through a newly installed IMAX digital projection system and a specially-designed IMAX screen in an existing auditorium.
But there’s a catch! Cue the drama and suspense: GASP!
Only one auditorium will receive the IMAX technology, according to Liz Gillespie, vice president of marketing for Atlantic Station. Auditorium number 9 was selected, to be exact.
Either way, it’s still a win for Metro Atlanta. Gillespie added that IMAX technology can only be implemented at theatre’s that are not within a 20 mile radius of existing locations.
“Atlantic Station is finding its place, here in Atlanta. We understand the need for local flavor and this is just the beginning.”
Here is a list of the total Four new Regal IMAX Theatre locations:
Los Angeles – Edwards Valencia Stadium 12 – November 2010
Washington, DC – Regal Majestic Stadium 20 – November 2010
Atlanta – Regal Atlantic Station Stadium 16 – December 2010
St. Louis – Regal St. Louis Mills Stadium 18 – December 2010
Now we can pay 20.00 to sit in a dark room and listen to people take phone calls and text their friends. Great.
Isn’t there an IMAX at Fernbank? Or is that one exempt because they don’t show mainstream movies?
IMAX screens have to be like 5 stories tall… how is this even possible?
Knowing the way they we things in Atlanta this will be a “bootleg” IMAX experience.
Atlantic Station is the absolute worst place in the city to see a movie. A bunch of 16 year olds that take the “free ride” over to yell, scream, and text during the movie.
Yawn.
The commercial IMAX screens are not as large as the standard IMAX screens you see at museums and science centers. Their aspect ratio is similar to a standard cinema screen, unlike the standard IMAX.
Thanks again for the post. Awesome.
I’m unimpressed with 3d and IMAX. So, its whatever yall wanna do.
Underground is/ Atlantic Station.
There’s a reason why Tyler Perry and his fans frequent Atlantic Station, because they can be brought in on the Metro for free or cruise the streets all night, the only difference between A.S. and the Underground it Atlantic Station attracts more of those individuals. When they close the streets at night, then A.S. will be safe to go to. Which will never happen.
