Midtown’s Design Review Committee (DRC) “applauded” a proposal from Cousins Properties this month to make site improvements to its Promenade office tower, at 1230 Peachtree Street. With support from the DRC, the developer is moving the project forward, likely submitting permits to the City of Atlanta next.

The 38-story Promenade tower — built in 1990 — is part of a mixed-use development on 12 acres. Developers plan on overhauling the building’s three outdoor plazas with new landscape and hardscape improvements, according to a DRC recap report.

“Stealth Plaza,” which fronts 15th Street and boasts a 33-foot concrete sculpture by Tristan Al-Haddad, “will be softened with added greenery including turf and trees.” Cousins will also add a new canopy directly to the building complete with a walk-up coffee window. “Vault Plaza,” which also fronts 15th Street, will get a rebuilt walkway with two levels connecting the building to the parking deck. Promenade’s “Rear Garden” will get updated landscaping and hardscaping, along with a new seat wall and outdoor seating area that serves a café space inside the building.

Cousins anticipates the improvements will get underway by summer 2021 with anticipated completion in early to mid-2022, a company representative Wednesday told What Now Atlanta in an email. The developer also plans on overhauling Promenade’s interior. Those details are forthcoming.
