Piedmont has officially opened its new System Support Center in Midtown Atlanta. The new hub consolidates three former Piedmont offices and spans seven floors of the building. The layout is designed to encourage collaboration and improve connectivity among teams.
Piedmont’s System Support Center Opens in Midtown Atlanta
Spanning nearly 165,000 square feet of office space, Piedmont’s System Support Center is now open. It now consolidates three former Piedmont offices into one central workplace.
Designed by Cooper Carry, the project ranks among the city’s largest office leases of 2024. The transformed space is tailored to the organization’s culture and future growth.
The transformation comes after Piedmont extended its lease. Seeking long-term durability, Cooper Carry prioritized product longevity and closely reviewed material warranties. The approach taken rejuvenated the existing spaces and reinforced Piedmont’s growth and efficiency.
Transformative Design by Cooper Carry
Cooper Carry spent a significant amount of time studying Piedmont’s culture before crafting the design. The result was a workplace that reflects the company as it is today, while supporting its continued growth and evolution.
The top three floors, which were previously occupied by a law firm. Cooper Carry reused and repurposed the space as much as possible while using advanced architectural finishes. The grand staircase left by the previous tenant was restored and refreshed, while the lower floors started as blank slates.
To improve efficiency and reduce costs, Piedmont leased the building’s ground-floor retail space. The space was used to create a large training center that can host conferences, training sessions, and more.
“We developed a bespoke design to address their priorities centered on three design themes: cohesion, connectivity, and longevity,” said Sarah Keithly, Lead Interior Designer at Cooper Carry. “These themes are woven throughout the space, supporting an environment that reflects Piedmont’s values, supports efficiency, and stands the test of time.”
Piedmont previously housed its resource systems across three locations. Because of this, cohesion is one of the central themes for the new office. The softer color palette mixes with the exterior view of the city while ensuring the Piedmont logo pops against it.
The colors also ensure that employees and guests always know they are at Piedmont, despite the separate levels occupied by the company. Cooper Carry’s Experiential Graphic team worked with the company to commission an original watercolor mural by local artist Christina Kwan. The mural incorporates vibrant reds and oranges, along with a magnolia flower that is emblematic of Piedmont’s branding.
Features of the New Facility
One of the key elements of the project was to foster more chance encounters and water-cooler conversations among employees. The goal was to bring staff together, encourage collaboration, and generate new energy for the organization’s future.
It includes shared meeting rooms, collaboration zones, and coffee bars. The new office has a non-reservable huddle room in every corner. These huddle rooms offer sweeping city views and create natural spaces for collaboration.
For the shared break rooms, a variety of seating arrangements have been carried out. Cooper Carry also implemented lighting to add continuity to the exterior expression of the building. The lighting is visible from the busy Downtown Connector, adding continuity to the building’s exterior after hours.
