Now featuring significantly less surface parking.
Developer WRS’s website is marketing the Underground Atlanta renovation with one set of renderings, but as it turns out, the developer has newer and improved plans for the historic Atlanta property.
As promised earlier this week, Kevin Rogers of WRS has shared the most recent renderings directly with What Now Atlanta.
The updated images feature much less surface parking than the outdated, although never-before-published (before this week) renderings.
One huge surprise Rogers shared with WNA was that WRS currently has the rights to purchase 15-18 other historic buildings in the immediate surrounding Downtown area including the ones housing Metromall, Payless Shoes and other retailers with the intention of restoring the buildings for additional new office and retail space.
WRS expresses interest in bringing a good balance of local and national retailers and restaurants to the redeveloped area.
“We are very aware of what makes many of the cool intown neighborhoods click,” Rogers said before listing locales such as Little Five Points, Castleberry Hill and Old Fourth Ward as examples.
When asked about what type of grocery store is planned at Underground Atlanta, Rogers said “I can only say that our present intentions are for it to be a full service grocery.”
Among shopping, restaurants, and entertainment, residences will become a part of Underground Atlanta for the first time in history. Rogers also says that a hotel and conference center are in the works.

So much better.
Glad to hear the developers “get it.”
This is much better. Still looks like a bit too much parking. There’s already a lot of lots downtown.

Love the new renderings! I hope that WRS comes up with a new name for this area… Something that evokes positive energy. “Underground” has always seemed like a seedy urban dungeon to me. It just needs to go away… Maybe “Terminus Village” or “Peachtree Market Station” or something like that. LOL
Much better with less surface parking. How much is residential?
