UPDATE (June 25, 2017): Babalu Tapas & Tacos To Open June 26 in Midtown

Babalu Tacos and Tapas, a restaurant from Jackson, Mississippi-based Eat Here Brands, is working on adding an Atlanta outpost.

The company presented plans to the Midtown Development Review Committee May 10 for a location in unit #1 at 33 Peachtree Place, an under-construction development from Wood Partners.

Babalu would be the first known table service restaurant tenant for the project, which will be home to Dancing Goats and Which Wich.

The 5,200 SF buildout would feature a stone and stucco veneer, operable storefront windows, patio seating with metal patio railing, wood planters, and an aluminum shelter hanging over some of the outdoor dining area. Additionally, the design would include an indoor and outdoor bar area with seating.

Earlier this week, Mary Sanders Ferriss, Creative Coordinator at Eat Here Brands, Babalu’s parent company, told What Now Atlanta that a lease has not been signed yet, but details will be shared as they are available.

The concept lists four existing locations on its website in Birmingham, Jackson, Memphis and Knoxville, with another on the way in Charlotte.

Also at the location will be Alta Midtown, a “resort-style” apartment development for which renderings and floorplans were recently revealed.

  • That restaurant design looks awesome! I am really excited Babalu is coming to Midtown ATL. I make a point to dine at their units in Knoxville and Birmingham every time I’m in those towns. The food is fresh, creative, and delicious, and served in a light, casual atmosphere with good energy. I look forward to the day folks in ATL don’t have to drive hundreds of miles to enjoy Babalu.

  • Actually, this would be (at least) the second tenant because Dancing Goats has long been confirmed for the space opposite the Marta station.

  • Great looking design. Looking forward to it for selfish reasons-live nearby and have sampled their fare in other markets.

  • What fun! I’ve heard great things about Babalu’s. Love the design and can’t wait to try the food. I say “Bring it on!”

  • Have sampled the restaurant in other cities and looking forward to it’s opening. A great addition to Midtown.
