Riccardo Ullio Phones AJC’s Food and More Columnist to Confirm

Yesterday, what now, atlanta? was the first to report that Lupe Taqueria and Beleza Lounge located at 905 Juniper in Midtown closed this past Saturday, May 22 (story here).

Though our perspective on the sudden closures were not concrete, a phone call to John Kessler, the Atlanta Journal Constitution’s Food and More columnist, from Riccardo Ullio (Lupe and Beleza owner) confirmed our speculation.

“Even though we were breaking even at Lupe, we could not get the bank to work something out on the loan,” Ullio said. Both properties will go into foreclosure, according to Kessler’s posting.

Kessler also notes that Beleza was supposed to reopen but never had the chance after closing for a concept refresh.

What’s your take? Any suggestions for restaurant concepts to fill these prime Midtown spaces?

  • Given Atlanta’s state of mind, I suppose you’d have to tear down the houses behind the building and build a large surface parking lot.
