Neapolitan style pizzeria submits application for building permit.
Two Atlanta natives, who previously worked for Antico Equity Group LLC, a company that bought development rights to Atlanta’s popular Antico Pizza Napoletana, are developing a new restaurant in the Old Fourth Ward neighborhood.
Brothers Hugh and Jason Connerty, are opening a concept similar to Midtown’s famed Antico Pizza, Amy Wenk with the Atlanta Business Chronicle first reported.
Called Ammazza, the 4,900-square-foot pizzeria, at 591 Edgewood Avenue, is set to open in mid-June.
The pizzeria submitted an application for a building permit with City of Atlanta Wednesday to begin the build-out process. An estimated $275,000 will be spent to convert the former office space.
For more on the concept, read the rest of Wenk’s thoughtful report.
This is really on the border of Inman Park and Old Fourth Ward, not downtown. But semantics aside, this is great for the neighborhood. I’m looking forward to tasty pizza without having to trek all the way to Home Park!
Wow! This is a great addition to the neighborhood.
Any thought on the reasoning of the name?
“Ammazza” means “it Kills” but not in a good way as used in slang, it really means “to kill someone”
Ammazza, a Roman word used by all Romans, basically means, ‘wow!’ It is used when exclaiming over anything. It comes from the word meaning to kill, or ammazzare. Ammazzare comes from the Italian noun, mazza, or a bat, a club. I suppose the shock that comes with killing, is what lead to the exclamation, ammazza! You can use this exclamation in reference to practically anything. It is not a curse word in any way, and like I said, people of all ages use it quite often.

So, it means “To kiIl Batman,” then?
Ammazza! Copycat or not, this will be an exciting addition to the Edgewood district. I cant wait to try it out.
