Tim Lance, the restauranteur behind Bantam Pub and his partner Richard Baum, have plans to open Big Game on Historic Old Fourth Ward Park.
The 4,200-square-foot “sportsman club” will be situated in the recently-sold Anthem on Ashley apartment community fronting the park, at 720 Ralph McGill Blvd NE.
Lance and his team have been working with North American Properties—Anthem on Ashley’s owners up until Wednesday of last week—on Big Game since late-2017, Lance Wednesday told What Now Atlanta in a telephone interview.
A lease was finalized earlier this year, he said.
During the initial planning phases, the restaurant was referred to as “Out of the Park” while a name was determined.
“Big Game is going to feel like a hunting and fishing lodge you’d find in Montana,” Lance said.
“Think wood treatments, stone, and leather.”
Garage doors will open up onto a 1,800-square-foot patio that spills out into the park for “open-air events.”
There will be pool tables and dart lanes alongside televisions tuned to sports and a horseshoe-shaped bar with seating for 22 to 25 guests.
“We’re looking to create a better dining experience for people that like to watch sports.”
On the “higher-end” menu will be “trophy fish” and “sustainable herd” like Bison, Buffalo, Elk, and New Zealand Reindeer.
“Big Game will offer a comfortable setting but a higher experience than just yelling back and forth at each other about whose team is better. We’re really focusing on our menu and beverage program.”
Big Game could open sometime between September 15 and October 15, 2018.
“Old Fourth Ward has a lot of heart and soul and hopefully Big Game will be a great addition.”
