Bark and Board, an upscale pet boarding and daycare concept with two in-town locations, will later this year open an outpost in the Lindridge-Martin Manor neighborhood of Atlanta.

Co-owners and husbands Stuart Wingate and Scott Powers, and their dogs Emmett, Monty, and Maxwell, are in the permitting process for the new Bark and Board, at 2173 Piedmont Road NE.

The forthcoming 22,507-square-foot facility will replace Aaron’s Corporate Furnishings.

“As Scott and I were looking around at the competitive landscape, we felt there was a great need for a more upscale, contemporary take on the traditional dog daycare and kennel,” Wingate told What Now Atlanta in a telephone interview.

“That’s one of the reasons we founded our own company instead of going the franchise route. We wanted to create a place we would want to bring our dogs to every day and would always feel comfortable boarding them.”

Bark and Board will offer daycare, boarding, grooming, and retail for both dogs and cats, as well as training and possibly even vet services.

The new outpost, dubbed Bark and Board Midtown, could open sometime this fall pending permits, inspections, etc.

Wingate and Powers left the corporate world in 2010 to launch Bark and Board starting with a location in West Midtown (now located at 426 Trabert Avenue.)

A Brookhaven outpost opened in September 2016.

“We gave up corporate bullshit for dog shit, and we couldn’t be happier,” Wingate said.

Depending on the “availability of real estate,” Wingate and Powers could open additional Bark and Board locations in and around Atlanta.

“We’re not looking to franchise or grow nationwide. We’re owner-operators and we’re on site every day. We don’t want to grow past our capacity to serve our customers.”
