Buckhead Life Restaurant Group has permanently closed its Buckhead Diner restaurant, the hospitality company — known for some of Atlanta’s most iconic eateries — announced in a press release Wednesday.

The Buckhead mainstay, at 3073 Piedmont Rd NE, has been in operation for more than three decades.

Buckhead Diner closed at the onset of the pandemic, and never reopened its doors, saying it would once again welcome guests “once social distancing guidelines are lifted.” The restaurant’s lease was up for renewal in July 2021.

“It was with a heavy heart that we made the decision to not renew our lease for Buckhead Diner,” Niko Karatassos, President of Buckhead Life Restaurant Group, said in the release. “For nearly 35 years this was the spot to be and be seen. It will forever be remembered as one of, if not the greatest, American restaurants in the country. We are happy to have hosted many celebrities and loyal locals over the decades.”

The upscale, white-tablecloth diner served American fare for brunch, lunch, and dinner with options ranging from Buttermilk Pancakes, omelettes, and burgers to Buckhead Diner’s signature Warm Blue Cheese Chips and its Fried Chicken which was only served on Sundays.

Buckhead Life Restaurant Group is behind Atlanta Fish Market, Bistro Niko, Chops, Corner Cafe, Kyma, and Pricci, in Atlanta. The company also has restaurants in Boca Raton and Ft. Lauderdale.

The company is expanding and renovating Chops, at 70 West Paces Ferry Road, with anticipated completion by winter of this year. The restaurant group will also focus on other new projects, including Lamb Shack, a just-opened ghost kitchen out of its Greek restaurant, Kyma, which features a healthy, modern, and elevated Mediterranean menu.
