A Virginia-based burger restaurant is planning expansion to the Peach State for the first time.

Progress is moving forward on the Jack Brown’s Beer & Burger Joint planned for 1006 North Highland Avenue Northeast, according to a recent building permit application with the City of Atlanta.

The restaurant is going into the Virginia-Highland space formerly occupied by Taco Mac’s original location, which recently announced it would be closing there after almost 50 years. Jack Brown’s Beer & Burger Joint is expected to open there this summer, according to the company.

This would be the first Atlanta location of the burger chain from Virginia. The restaurant is known for twists on the classic burger, made with 100 percent American wagyu beef, plus a range of craft beer. Longtime friends Aaron Ludwig and Mike Sabin started the concept, opening the first location Harrisonburg, Virginia, in 2009. There are now more than 20 locations across six states, mostly in the South and Southeast.

According to a filing with the Georgia Secretary of State’s office, Jack Brown’s Virginia Highlands LLC, registered to Jack Brown’s President Jason Owenby, was created in May 2025.
