A Brazilian coffeehouse called Buteco, pronounced “boo-TEH-koh,” is planned for The Beacon development in Grant Park.
Owner Rafael Pereira confirmed with What Now Atlanta that Buteco’s target opening date is early summer 2018 prior to the FIFA World Cup.
Drawing inspiration from Pereira’s first job in his father’s bakery and diner in São Paolo, Brazil, the restaurant will serve coffee and traditional Brazilian comfort foods. It will also serve beer, wine, and cocktails later in the day.
The bar will be managed by Ballard Lesemann, a veteran bartender and home brewer who has worked in Athens, Charleston, SC, and Atlanta.
The name Buteco is a Brazilian colloquialism that translates roughly to a “neighborhood bar.”
The new coffeehouse will be able to seat about 25 people in the 894 interior square feet, with space for 40+ more on the 1,370 square foot patio.
Rather than dedicating interior space to a full kitchen, most of the food will be prepared in a permanent food truck just outside the building.
According to Pereira, his team “looks forward to a robust crowd of soccer fans throughout the [World Cup] tournament as well as the Atlanta United season.”
