The Cereal Lab, a self-described “nostalgic cereal bar on wheels,” is coming to Decatur later this year. Owner Cynthia “Cyn” Hernandez in late March secured a lease for the sweet shop’s first brick-and-mortar, at 335 W Ponce de Leon Ave., the restaurateur Wednesday confirmed in an email to What Now Atlanta.

“The Cereal Lab is going to feel like an extension of your living room. Everyone is welcome from all walks of life,” Hernandez told What Now Atlanta. “I am anticipating our grand opening in June 2022, right in time for the summer.”

Earlier this month, Hernandez launched a Kickstarter to help fund The Cereal Lab storefront, seeking $15,000 from the community to assist in paying for construction.

“In 2020 I had [planned] on opening a brick and mortar for The Cereal Lab but COVID happened,” Hernandez writes on the page for the crowdfunding campaign. “Instead of dwelling on the negative, we decided to offer our services as a pop-up shop.” From there, The Cereal Lab got its own food truck. “Over the last year, our food truck has had great success. To date, we’ve catered to weddings, birthday parties, graduation parties, festivals, T.V. show crews, and sports organizations.”

Hernandez estimates opening the brick-and-mortar will carry an $83,000 buildout with equipment and other expenses totaling an additional $35,000. “I’m calling on my village to donate to my crowdfunding campaign to help with some of the costs,” Hernandez writes. “No amount is too small, or large.”

The Cereal Bar has a menu of cereal-infused desserts, baked goods, ice cream cones, and cereal bowls, with four signature flavors: Captain Pebbles, Butta Love, Craving Cookies, and Banging Banana.
