The Avellino’s NY Style Pizzeria & Bar space in Decatur has a new owner. Steve Josovitz of The Shumacher Group managed the sale of the restaurant to Ben Horgan, the former general manager of Twain’s Brewpub & Billiards, Josovitz Friday announced.

Horgan, who is also a partner at The Comet Pub & Lanes in Decatur, is bringing a Detroit-style pizzeria to the space called Corner Slice, according to Josovitz. Detroit-style pizzas are rectangular in shape, with a crispy and chewy thick crust.

Corner Slice is slated to open in September 2022 and in addition to its pizzas will serve wings, sandwiches, and salads, according to an Instagram page for the restaurant.

“We’re a laid back pizza shop, great pizza, sandwiches on fresh baked bread, salads and wings,” Horgan in an email told What Now Atlanta.

Luigi Rienzo, the owner of Avellino’s, closed the restaurant after 14 years to focus on the restaurant’s Brookhaven location and other real estate investments.

“Avellino’s went under contract within one day of listing with dozens of back up offers and interested parties banging down our doors,” Josovitz said. “Safe to say this was a ‘hot’ listing.” Avellino’s was listed for sale less than a month ago.
