Nagomiya will be the name of the planned Midtown Japanese eatery from Takashi Otsuka, the founder of go-to ramen hotspot WaGaYa and the recently-opened Chirori, What Now Atlanta (WNA) learned exclusively Friday.
Situated in the Hanover West Peachtree mixed-use, at 1010 West Peachtree Street NW, Nagomiya, which is Japanese for “House of Tranquility,” will focus on rice bowls, ramen, and sushi rolls with vegetarian options.
“We hope people living a fast-paced lifestyle in Midtown can stop and enjoy tranquil, casual Japanese dining experience,” Otsuka in an email told WNA.
The forthcoming restaurant will sit less than one mile from the original WaGaYa on 14th Street, but “Nagomiya will have different menus than Wagaya and the concept will be shifted towards authentic experiences that are suited for those who are more familiar with Japanese culture whereas Nagomiya will be less exotic and suited for beginners to Japanese cuisine.”
Hiroyuki Kawamura, who went to culinary school in Japan, will serve as head chef.
Kawamura used to be co-owner of Bluefin Sushi in Duluth and the head chef at Yebisuya in Doraville.
He currently works as Culinary Director in MGK Hospitality supervising two WaGaYa restaurants.
Ginkgo trees, which are incorporated into the restaurant’s logo, will be prominent in Nagomiya’s interior through an artificial Japanese garden inside.
Nagomiya is expected to debut late-spring 2020.
