The pizzeria has temporarily closed to clean up water damage.
Varuni Napoli has temporarily shuttered its Midtown doors to clean up water damage.
A bystander Sunday morning passing by the pizzeria, at 1540 Monroe Dr. NE, noticed smoke coming from the restaurant and alerted the Atlanta Fire Department, according to a statement April 26.
The “fast-acting authorities” entered the restaurant to address the smoke and doused the restaurant with water.
But there wasn’t a fire.
“When the pizza ovens, which burn at 900 degrees, are started they emit smoke throughout the restaurant during the heating process which takes place on a daily basis,” according to the statement.
“While there was no fire, Varuni Napoli is grateful for rapid response of the Atlanta Fire Department to the call.”
Varuni will remain closed for “the next few days” to make repairs caused from “water damage.”
