Grant Park restaurant Firepit Pizza Tavern is targeting Decatur for its second location, bringing a spot to Lulah Hills development, which is under construction in DeKalb County. It will open with the first wave of new tenants, slated to open in Q1 of 2027, according to a release.
Co-owners Leslie Cohen and Shaun Whitmer told What Now Atlanta that they hope to replicate the neighborhood tavern atmosphere of the Grant Park location, which Cohen opened in 2018.
“We’re always eager to grow, show off our different skillsets and expand. We’ve had such great success that we’ve started thinking about other locations and what our next moves are,” Cohen said. “When we found out about this very exciting development, we loved what they’re doing for that neighborhood.”
The brand will open in a 3,300-square-foot space at Lulah Hills. Its menu is designed to be consistent and accessible, featuring items such as signature sandwiches, salads, firepit pizzas, and appetizers such as street corn and their signature unicorn wings. The menu is designed to be consistent and accessible, offering affordable options and gluten-free and vegan options.
“I think what’s important is offering quality food and service for a price that makes sense, not pricing out communities and letting them be part of what we have going on,” Whitmer said. “We want people to be able to come have a business lunch, a casual meal, a family dinner or a date night. We want our doors wide open to everybody.”
Cohen and Whitmer opened Latin-inspired concept Birdcage in Grant Park in 2024. The Lulah Hills expansion will allow them to reach a new neighborhood in the Atlanta area.
“We’ve won awards for our unicorn wings and we really want to get those available to more people in different areas,” Cohen said. “We want to offer the items that people love in different areas.”
Firepit will join other tenants, including Refuge Coffee Co. — slated to open this spring at Lulah Hills — and Anthropologie, which will open in 2027.
