Richard Tang, the owner of Char Korean Bar and Grill, Thursday shared renderings with What Now Atlanta for his forthcoming Girl Diver restaurant.
The Reynoldstown restaurant, first announced in late-2017, was just named a few weeks ago.
The Asian seafood house is many ways is a tribute to Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai’s notable “The Dream of the Fisherman’s Wife” woodblock print which carries the nickname “Girl Diver.”
Tang is also paying homage to the Japanese and Korean women divers that for nearly two millennia have been diving without any scuba gear to collect pearls, among other things, from the ocean’s floor.
These “sea women” are known as ama and haenyeo.
Girl Diver’s menu will focus on seafood boils—Alaskan King Crab, crawfish, tiger shrimp—and entrees like a Wagyu skirt steak with roasted potatoes and a Thai-style chimichurri.
